Sri Sathya Sai Baba has passed away today Easter Sunday after succumbing to heart complications. Sai Baba was 84 years old. Thousands of his followers massed at the Institute of Higher Medical Sciences hospital where Sai Baba was hospitalized in his home town of Puttaparthi, in Andhra Pradesh.
Sathya Sai Baba was admitted to the hospital at Puttaparthi on 28 March, 2011 following respiration-related problems, and has died almost one month later, on April 24, 2011, on the Christian highest holy day of Easter Sunday.
To his devotees, Sai Baba was an avatar, an incarnation of God in human form, who appeared on Earth to preach his inspirational message. Followers of Sai Baba were not required to give up their previous religious beliefs, which helped in accounting for him having millions of them around the world.
The funeral of spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba will be performed on Wednesday with full state honours.
