With the sponsoring of International Association for
Suicide Prevention, WHO and other partners will be adopting
a day to the Prevention of suicide.
The day is the 10th of September and was first chosen in
2004 under the theme "Saving lives, Restoring hope"
The theme for World Suicide Prevention Day in 2009 is
"Suicide Prevention in Different Cultures." The Day will be
launched at the Press Conference of the United Nations on
September 10th at the United Nations Headquarters in New
York, where the latest figures on suicide worldwide as well
as suicide prevention activities will be announced.
The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP)
is dedicated to:
- preventing suicidal behaviour,
- alleviating its effects, and
- providing a forum for academians, mental health
professionals, crisis workers, volunteers and suicide
survivors.
Suicide affects all levels of a society and Barbadians have not been spared.
