Have you seen the blue road markers in the city lately, and
have you been wondering what there were?
I
Certainly became suspicious of these markers because they
followed no particular pattern on roads, and at times are
placed at the edge of roads. The example pictured here, is
found in the alley next to Collins Pharmacy on Broad Street,
Bridgetown.
The optical reflector carries an inscription which says Astro Optics. I used this info to do a Google search and
found a company which sells the reflectors. These reflectors
are not for traffic guidance, but to act as markers for fire
hydrants.
The brilliant blue reflective lenses alert the fire service
to each hydrants location. Saving precious seconds when it
counts most.
The Reflector is called a Hydrant-Lite marker, and it is
placed directly opposite each hydrant, either on the road
centerline or right-hand lane line. It allows for the
spotting of hydrants 1000 feet away.
