Dr. Kermit Barron Gosnell, an abortionist doctor of the State of Philadelphia, has been charged today with murder. Dr. Gosnell's clinic was shut down last night after an investigation discovered "deplorable" conditions. (aipnews)
The doctor is accused of causing the death of one of his female patients and killing seven viable babies in illegal abortions. The babies were born alive in the sixth, seventh and eighth months of pregnancy, but their spinal cords were allegedly severed with scissors, Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams said (CNN)
Dr. Gosnell's clinic called the Women's Medical Society has served the needs of mostly low-income minority women for many years. Nine other people who worked in the Philadelphia Women's Medical Society, including Gosnell's wife, and sister-in-law, also were apparently charged.
Dr. Gosnell has practiced medicine for some 30 years.
