Wycliffe Bible Translators
Barbados TEAM
Perhaps you’ve heard of The Wycliffe Bible
Translators (Barbados TEAM) before. They are in fact one of
seven functional groups of Wycliffe Caribbean, which means
that they are collectively a member of Wycliffe
International.
Their mission is to assist the Church in making disciples of
all nations through Bible Translation.
The Barbados TEAM has embraced “Vision 2025” which emanated
in the USA and is supported by Wycliffe TEAMS world-wide.
This vision is aimed at seeing a Bible Translation Project
started by 2025 in each Language group that needs one.
A recent survey has shown that there are about 6,912 spoken
languages/dialects in the world. Of these 414 groups have
the entire Bible; 1,068 have only the New Testament; while
873 have at least one book of the Bible. Currently there are
1,410 different projects in progress. Of the remaining 2,737
groups none have any form of translation at all.
Currently there are no Barbadians directly involved in Bible
translation. It is time that statistics such as these are
changed to ensure that this large number of Bible-less people
is reduced.
Wycliffe Bible Translators is a nonprofit organization
dedicated to making a translation of the Bible in every
living language in the world, especially for cultures with
little existing Christian influence.
Wycliffe was founded in 1942 by William Cameron Townsend.
There are currently branches in over 50 countries.[1] The
organization is named after John Wycliffe, the first person
to initiate a translation of the whole Bible into Middle
English.(Wikipedia)
