Redjet, and Redjetters, will experience takeoff on May 8th following the airline receiving its Air Operator's Certificate (AOC). This inaugural flight is expected to be from Barbados to Trinidad and Tobago.
In the news of late Works, and Transport minister in Trinidad, and Tobago has said he was not aware that REDjet had permission to travel to Trinidad, and he would have to investigate. He also said he welcomed competition, but did not perceive how REDjet could operate an airline at a cost which is cheaper than it would be to travel on a bicycle.
Although Trinidad is uncertain as to whether REDjet will be able to land its inaugural flight there. It is believed that under the Treaty of Chaguaramas signed on July 4, 1973 at Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago, a Barbadian based airline will be allowed to land there.
Although Minister of Transport and Works in Trinidad and Tobago was a bit taken aback by REDjet being able to land in that country, what he might not be aware of, is the fact that REDjet being a Barbadian-based aircraft, has the freedom of transit to other Caribbean states, who are members of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME).
According to the Treaty of Chaguramas (Revised - 2001) under Article 86 - Freedom of Transit "The Member States shall grant freedom of transit within the Community with respect to goods and vessels and other vehicles transporting those goods." Transit means the passage of goods and vessels and aircraft and vehicles, and are subject only to charges for transport, handling, and other services rendered.
REDjet should therefore not be discriminated against as it is registered in a CSME member state.

Jamaican authorities, which REDjet CEO Ian Burns said last week had given the airline the all-clear to begin operations, have now forced REDjet to postpone several flights until later this month.
Passengers booked on the affected flights between Barbados and Jamaica were yesterday sent the following notice: "Due to political and regulatory actions in Jamaica beyond our control, REDjet cannot operate flights between Barbados [and] Jamaica between May 11 and May 24. (TrinidadExpress)
