Jesus is God who humbled himself by coming to earth to live amongst sinful man so that he might die for us all that we might be saved from hells fire once we repent of our sins, and confess with our mouths that he is Lord and Saviour.
Many are confused by this notion that Jesus is God, because they see God as being the Father alone. If one was to read the Bible carefully, one would understand that God is referred to as God the Father (Joh 6:27), and God the Son (Mat 4:3), and God the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:3-4).
This is a topic to which many arguments are based. To those doubting Thomas' out there, I will be showing here scriptural basis for the fact that Jesus is God.
For some of you. You have been thought the contrary, which no doubt you will use to try to refute what I am saying here. What I will advice you to do is for one instant, that you read the bible for yourself. Do not take what persons tell you including myself hook line and sinker.
God is an entity which is comprised of more than one person (Mat 28:19). This is shown in the bible as:
God the father - the father part - who is the head, it is he who we pray to. It is he Jesus prayed to while on earth.
God the Son (It is he who gave up being part of God to come and dwell with us here on earth (Php 2:6), we have to pray to the father via him (Joh 14:6),
God the Holy Spirit/Spirit of God (when Jesus went back to heaven the Holy spirit was sent in his stead, as a comforter for Christians who have truly accepted God (Joh 14:16, 1Co 3:16).
God the Father referred to Jesus his son as God:
All of Heb 1 but more specifically Heb 1:8 - But unto the
Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a
sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
The following verse speaks for itself no need for explanation:
1Ti 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
The above verse is further strengthen by the following two verses:
Mat 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Thomas doubted at first but later came to understand Jesus was God:
Joh 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
The Bible speaks of the return of Jesus to this earth in the second coming. It does not speak of God the Father returning with him. Therefore in the following verses the returning God is Jesus, who is referred to as God and Saviour:
Tit 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious
appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Tit 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
One of God's names is "I AM". Jesus here is referring to himself as I AM. This got the Jews upset:
John 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he
saw it, and was glad.
John 8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
Jesus is God because he was I AM before Abraham ever
Jesus in the following verse equated himself with God, Which one of us on earth can do that?:
Joh 10:30 I and my Father are one.
Jesus said this as all power was given to him, but God the Father is the head because it is God the Father we all have to pray to via Jesus.
God can be liken to a Government where there is a head, whether it be a President or a Prime Minister. These have senators and Ministers in their governments respectively. Which make one Government. The same with God. The Father, Son, Holy Spirit make up one God. The Father/Almighty being the Head.
